Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns

12-25-2024

Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns was a wonderful read that delivered on everything a DC holiday special needed. I loved Santa in this. He was able to retain his jovial personality while grounding it just enough to work with Batman and Superman. The image of Superman screaming in joy for Santa really brought a smile to my face.

The Silent Knight goes really hard. A hollow set of armor possessed by a knight of Camelot. I have no notes on that. It's literally peak writing. Him slowly forming back into a human is also really really cool.

This is the first book I've read with Thunderheart in it (She is the daughter of Wally West Flash). She's a great character in this book. They are definitely a kid but not written annoyingly, and I really hope in future books she's as well written.

Batman isn't Batgod in this one. He's the smartest person in the room, but he doesn't literally solve everything. He is there to be a level head and solve a riddle at the end. The perfect use of him as a character.

Superman gets nerfed right away so that he can't instantly beat everything. I don't mind this because it really was needed for the story.

Damien and Zatanna didn't really leave much of an impression on me, but I don't mean that in a bad way. I just enjoyed the other characters more.

All the other supporting characters were great as well. Etrigon and Robotman were very humorous. Especially when Santa gives Robotman an ax, but Robotman meant a guitar. Faust is a swarmy asshole. I've literally never heard of this character, but he had a wonderful aura.

And to top it all off, Santa is now an official member of the Justice league. I want to see him fighting along with the other heros in the future. Also, Santa's wife Ulah is so fucking hot. Please step on me.
